Jiuzhaigou History

As a National Park of nature, this place cannot be praised for its long history, since the Chinese government proclaimed it as such in 1982, though Tibetan and Qiang peoples have lived here for centuries. The history of the county itself, however, which was known as Nanping, dates back from the period of the Shang Dynasty, and not before 1998 it got its today’s name, Jiuzhaigou County. Besides having the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site, it also became a World Biosphere Reserve in 1997. In the present times, it is one of the most important natural attractions of China, officially opened for tourists in 1984, and year by year, it gathers thousands of tourists who come from all over the world to appreciate it natural beauty.
