Shanghai Old Street
A good starting point for Shanghai Old Town sightseeing is Shanghai Old Street (老街; Lǎo Jiē), also known as Fangbang Middle Road. The streets which is 825 meters long mixes traditional and modern in a quite interesting manner. There are still buildings from the period of Ming and Qing Dynasties in the western and eastern sections, though the tinges of modernization are obvious and perfectly match with traditional Chinese. Here you may find many interesting souvenirs shops, restaurants and places to taste snacks and tea, enjoying the spirit of old days of this beautiful city.
You don’t need to bother with city maps while in the old part of the city, but rather give yourself a freedom to wander around and let the old spirit be your guide through these amazing streets, shops and bazaars.
