Yangshuo Travel Guide
People come to Yangshuo mainly because of the beautiful nature and rafting on the Li and Yulong rivers. Yangshuo is also known as one of the best places for rock climbing in Asia, suitable for both beginners and the professionals in this sport. If you want to visit Yangshuo you need to have certain level of physical strength, although there are plenty activities that can be performed by people who are not in their best physical form. Boat cruises and raft rides are important parts of visiting this place, but hiking and bike rides are in a way essential and a must, so it is quite recommended to get prepared for physical effort.
Most people have to go through Guilin to get to Yangshuo. Guilin is not as interesting as Yangshuo and it is better not to waste your time in it, but go to Yangshuo immediately. Although there is a boat tour from Guilin to Yangshuo, it is better to go from Yangdi to Xingping, which is easily accessible, more beautiful and cheaper. From Guilin ferryboats are the only option, whereas from Yangshuo you can use rafts too. Though the first have more advantages and are more comfortable in general, rafts are more private and flexible and you will experience Li River better if you decide for this kind of ride.
Except the Li River, Yulong River and Yangshuo countryside with traditional minority villages are very interesting, too. Altogether, they make a very appealing and beautiful whole that is worth a visit and that can be the highlight of the China trip. Yangshuo is a small place and most of the events in the city happen around West Street (Xi Jie), where the largest number of restaurants, bars and accommodation are settled. They call it “Foreigner’s street” because they make up the largest part of the population.
